A solid start

26.05.2008 | Tennis

Roger started his French Open campaign convincingly today with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Sam Querrey.

"It's always difficult in the first round at Grand Slams," Roger said. "I'm relieved and I'm looking forward to the second round."

Roger will now face Albert Montanes of Spain or Belgium's Kristof Vliegen for a place in the third round as he seeks to complete a career Grand Slam. He was rarely troubled in his opening match, facing a break in the first set but recording two breaks of his own against the Querrey delivery to move a set up.

He then showed solid tennis with some occasional brilliant shots and was able to wrap up the victory in just over an hour and a half.

Oh yeah, trust me I know all timings and time differences memorized. ;) Its just that they were telecasting Roger's match until he started steamrolling Montanes and then switched to Davy-Safin; I guess they did this cause they assumed Roge

Im Indian yes. But live abroad. However my friends back in India do tell me star sports or ESPN does telecast the matches live.

Matches start 11 am Paris time.

A question to all hawkeyed Roger fans: is it me,or Roger seemed so deep in thoughts sometimes, even heading for one of the exits instead of the bench ? Did you catch this moment?

How did you watch the whole match live?! Star Sports stopped telecasting it! (I'm asking assuming you are in India)

Mitz try this for live scores:
Maybe its better than the SlamTracker. One thing I miss from the usual live scoring is that used to tell us if the player hit an ace/ made a double fault. It nice to know

Hi Mitz and marj69. Thanks for the info on Roger's box. No actually I'm not worried. Was just wondering. But you're right, marj69, wouldn't want him hearing any questions being asked.

Hey Lucy58, you can look at stats here: http://www.rolandgarros.com

Hello Roger,

You have played very well in your first match, Continou like this and you will win Roland Garros this year!
Good luck,

It was nice to see how after Montanes won the tiebreak it did awakened the sleeping giant... and you turned on the fire for the rest of the match. Liked those aces-keep increasing that 1st serve percentage. Good win!

Allez chouchou!
