A solid start

26.05.2008 | Tennis

Roger started his French Open campaign convincingly today with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Sam Querrey.

"It's always difficult in the first round at Grand Slams," Roger said. "I'm relieved and I'm looking forward to the second round."

Roger will now face Albert Montanes of Spain or Belgium's Kristof Vliegen for a place in the third round as he seeks to complete a career Grand Slam. He was rarely troubled in his opening match, facing a break in the first set but recording two breaks of his own against the Querrey delivery to move a set up.

He then showed solid tennis with some occasional brilliant shots and was able to wrap up the victory in just over an hour and a half.

Bravo Roger!!!!!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!

I hope we can also say that the worse Nadal has done was to upset Roger when he won Hamburg…. If Roger is upset enough… Nadal better watch out!
