A solid start

26.05.2008 | Tennis

Roger started his French Open campaign convincingly today with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Sam Querrey.

"It's always difficult in the first round at Grand Slams," Roger said. "I'm relieved and I'm looking forward to the second round."

Roger will now face Albert Montanes of Spain or Belgium's Kristof Vliegen for a place in the third round as he seeks to complete a career Grand Slam. He was rarely troubled in his opening match, facing a break in the first set but recording two breaks of his own against the Querrey delivery to move a set up.

He then showed solid tennis with some occasional brilliant shots and was able to wrap up the victory in just over an hour and a half.

Now you are in the second match and I found myself absolutely annoying by the the number of your unforced errors. You have an excellent oppotunity to win the title with your draw and it will be a huge shame if you even do not get to the final.
God bless

It's interesting how some of us lose hope when Federer loses the first set. Lets hope for the best.

Dear fellow fans,

Roger sometimes forgets that he should really, really focus on playing the Spaniards and players from Latin American countries, esp. Argentina. These are grinders and can kill you with their constant retrieving, they're like ball mac
