A solid start

26.05.2008 | Tennis

Roger started his French Open campaign convincingly today with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory over American Sam Querrey.

"It's always difficult in the first round at Grand Slams," Roger said. "I'm relieved and I'm looking forward to the second round."

Roger will now face Albert Montanes of Spain or Belgium's Kristof Vliegen for a place in the third round as he seeks to complete a career Grand Slam. He was rarely troubled in his opening match, facing a break in the first set but recording two breaks of his own against the Querrey delivery to move a set up.

He then showed solid tennis with some occasional brilliant shots and was able to wrap up the victory in just over an hour and a half.

Thanks so much for the anecdote. It does sound real scary to be out there with these powerful players! Glad your eye was not hurt!

Well, it looks like Roger is back on court! Good!

Hi Jeux-set-match,

Roger played again a nice disguised drop shot as well as a drop shot while returning serve (this last time he had to play an extra shot to make the point).

Yes, the locker room... Both Nadal and Roger are there. Only the Djoke i

Merci mille fois for the update.
Cannot wait for the match to start again, but it seems that the rain is falling quite hard so I hope our Roger will not lose his momentum if the delay is long. I wish I could be the little fly on the locker roo

Hi Laura from the Lower East Side,

It was good to see that Roger was able to pull out some aces when it mattered each of the two times that Montanes had set point. Wasn't it? This is a very good sign to me.

Hey, if the rain lasts a long time... ma
