Roger defeated in 5 sets

10.09.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger had to end his quest for another US Open title with a 7-6(9), 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 5-7 defeat against Novak Djokovic in the semi-final today.

Roger had a tough day as it is only the second time in a total of 184 matches that he has been beaten after leading by two sets. The loss means he will finish a season without a grand slam title for the first time since 2002.

Everything looked perfect in the beginning as Roger booked the first two sets and was playing really well. It was in the two following two sets that Djokovic raised his level of play while Roger did not quite keep up. Roger got everything back together in the final set, taking it to 40-15 on his serve at 5-3. But an incredibly hard forehand from the Serb and one of Roger's balls just barely touching the net and sailing into the out kept him from clinching the victory. Djokovic went sailing through and secured the win after over four hours of play.

GAYALBATROSS...If Federer is too defensive what to tell about Djokovic and Nadal??? Don't talk without thinking!!!

Hi Roger I hope you are not too frustrated after your match with Novak! It was a tremendous match and you were so unlucky or fate, not to win in the fifth set. Certainly the final missed you very much and wasnt of the same standard and class in my opinion although the set that Nadal won was pretty good.

Reachng the semis as you did just shows that on such form you can still play at the very top. Enjoy Oz and the rest of the season.

best wishes to you and your family

Mike

The game agains Djokovic was spectacular. I do think that luck played its part. What is clear is that we are going to have several more years of excellent tennis and, I am sure, Federer will be back to number 1 during 2012.

Hi Rog, Great smile arriving in Australia!. You haven't had much of a break, since the U.S. But Lleyton Hewitt mentioned in one of the newspapers down under, " that time won't hinder Roger,, he is as close to Superman as it comes!. Enjoy some great tennis with your partner in the Davis Cup, it would be great if Switserland won. Good luck and take care.

So sorry for your loss in the semis even though you played extremely well, it was just not meant to be!!! It was a very entertaining match played at top level. It's great to see that you can obviously beat Novak at his best!!!
Anyway, congratulations are still in order for a well played tournament and glad to hear that you feel really good about your game and you overall condition!
Have a good rest and best of luck for the rest of the season!!!
Good luck against Australia next week!!!

Have a good time in Aussie Roger. With no other top 4 players out there, you should be able to enjoy your tennis with little or no pressure on you. In with the rest of the Swiss team and your family you can have some fun. Relax, enjoy yourself and above all look after yourself. Wishing you and all the team a successful Davis Cup and all the luck in the world! Hop Suisse!!
