Roger wins Swiss duel

Roger cruised past fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-2 today to book a spot in the quarter finals.

"I could have lost a set against Alejandro Falla in the second round and today against Stan and after this, you never know," said Roger. "So I am happy with what's happened. I'm playing well, serving well and moving well. I hope it continues like this."

In rather stormy conditions, Roger dominated the match from the start. His ground strokes were unerringly accurate and his serve metronomic. It seemed only complacency could stop our champ after the first set. But the second set proved to be a bit of a struggle as Roger dropped service in the first game. But he came right back and continued his superb tie-break record to end the set and move two sets up. Roger raced into an early lead in the third set and experienced no further problems at all from there.

Roger's win booked him a place in the last eight where a clash with Marin Cilic (ATP 12) or Robin Soderling (ATP 7) is up next on Tuesday.

What was that Roger? Whas it a boys match or men's match?
For Robin it was men's match, but for you it was a boy's match. Everyone is saying that you did your best ,but you didn't.

This is the sad part - the score was 1 set all - beginning of 3rd set, 1st game Soderling serving 15-40 which meant Rog had 2 breakpoint against Soderling. If Roger just claimed 1 breakpoint, he would have had Soderling under the gun, but he did not!

I'm sorry, guys, this kind of strategy can only be used in GS, which is in 5-set. You can't have it in the normal master tour. That was not the best Roger, but not the one below his average either.

At least the pressure of the match takes off to me, I can see it with comfort now and that gains the best one

nagyon szerettem volna hogy gyozzel.ive no words how much idve loved you to win.please dont be sad.the 23ll also be an untouchable record in this sport and.it was one of the biggest fight i saw from you.im sure Roger,youllve uncountable many more matches

Roger did not play that bad!
Robin was just on fire! Hope he'll do the same in final and won't chicken out like in 2009
I'm a Roger fan but Robin deserves some credit at this point...

It is over. When you decided to retire from Monte Carlo, you did a huge mistake. You should not retired from Monte Carlo. You lose important points there, and most important, you did not practice in clay courts.
