Roland Garros

25.05.2004 | Tennis

It was a tough second round match against Nicolas Kiefer today, but fortunately, Roger made it (6-3, 6-4, 7-6). It was Roger’s 50th victory on clay, by the way! His career record on clay is now 50-27, his 2004 clay record 11-1. If Roger manages to capture the Roland Garros title, he would be just the second active player to win titles at more than two of the majors. Our top-seed gave no chances to Kristof Vliegen today, overpowering the Belgian lucky loser in straight sets early on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Roger routed the 21-year-old Vliegen 6-1 6-2 6-1 in a brisk 76 minutes. It was an easy day at the office for Roger who had lost in the first round in Paris the last two seasons. He executed his shots to perfection, never lost his serve and precluded the demoralized Belgian (debuting at Roland Garros), from setting up his game.
