Roger showed no sign of injury as he swept through to the second round of the Hamburg Masters with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Spain's Fernando Verdasco today.

Roger was barely extended by Verdasco, the world number 48, on a chilly Rothenbaum center court. He secured a single break at 5-4 to win the first set and another for 5-3 in the second allowed him to seal victory on serve.

Roger's next opponent will either be David Ferrer or Tomas Berdych.
