Semi Final in Paris!

31.05.2005 | Tennis

Roger took another confident step closer to becoming only the sixth man to win all four Grand Slams when he outclassed Romania's Victor Hanescu 6-2, 7-6 (7/3) and 6-3 in the French Open quarter-finals today. The result marks his best ever performance at Roland Garros where he had failed to get beyond the third round in his last three visits. Roger will take on either fourth seeded Rafael Nadal or David Ferrer for a place in Sunday's final. Roger has yet to drop a set in the tournament so far and the unseeded Hanescu, playing in his first Grand Slam quarter-final clash, did his best to make a fight of it in the second set. Roger had the first set wrapped up in just 34 minutes and was ahead with a break at 2-1 in the second before Hanescu hit back to 2-2. But once Hanescu had surrendered the tiebreak, Roger ran way with the tie. Hanescu saved a last match point in the eighth game but he was powerless to stop the Federer juggernaut and the match was wrapped up after 2hr 04min when the Romanian hit a forehand return wide.
