Roger defeated in final

20.04.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was defeated by fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 6-7(5), 2-6 in today's final in Monte Carlo.

Roger started well, taking the first set thanks to a break to 3-2. Stan gained momentum, breaking Roger in the second set, but our champ responded with a break himself. The tie-breaker was decided by a mere two points with Stan taking it 7-5. Roger fell two breaks behind to trail 0-4 in the decider and was finally defeated after two hours and 13 minutes of play.

Hello Roger,
Such a wonderful final with two stylists competing for their first title in MC. Having watched Stan's QF and SF I thought he might be the slight favorite in spite of the HtH. You seemed to have a little cold, played a lot of tennis with a tough QF and you have a baby due within a few weeks from now, so I think it was too early to expect you to be at your absolute best to beat one of the best. A wonderful day for not only Swiss tennis with two single handed backhands in the final.

A wonderful tournament with two swiss fantastic tennis players, two swiss guys in the SF AND IN THE F, it was great, both played very well, Stan had a too good serve yesterday and unfortunately you had some more difficulties but your second serve was perfect, he was a litle more lucky in the tie break and then kept very strong in the third set. It was an amazing final, thank you for it and good luck

Roger,

Sorry about this loss.
But it was a good and beautiful match, a good variety of shot on a quiet field.
I hope for RG.

Love forever,

Roger: Good week and great play in the first two sets of the final, unfortunately you ran out of gas. Mainly as a result of the shaky game against Jo-willy. It is sad to know that you only won 1 of your last 5 finals, that percentage is well below your marks. Please rest this week and get early to Madrid, do a double shift training in Madrid, court and gym in order not to ran out of gas anymore in a final. You can get this years remaining slams if you are mentally and physically fit. Go champ.

Dear Roger.....wonderful week of tennis esp. since it was not expected that you play at all. Could see you were tired but gave it all you had. Even though you did not get the trophy, you picked up 600 points and a few bucks, you got some good match playing, you are maintaining your ranking, and you had a great time in Monte Carlo with friends and fans. All in all, a great week. Time to get some rest before it all starts again. Good luck in Madrid. Eagerly awaiting the new arrival.

What a pity for yesterday's match, Roger! We're all happy for Stan, but I really hoped to have the greatest Easter gift: your MC trophy! :)
Btw the clay season had a great start for you, and it would be wonderful for you to keep playing this good tennis all the way through!
Best wishes for you and your family
