Among the last 16

05.09.2005 | Tennis

Top seed Roger Federer booked his place in the last 16 of the US Open with a 6-3 7-6 (8/6) 6-2 victory against Olivier Rochus at Flushing Meadows.

The world number one's victory against the 27th seed extended his winning streak to 21 matches overall.

The Swiss ace won in straight sets for the third time in as many matches and has dropped just one set in his last eight Grand Slam matches, but is determined not to be complacent.

"I don't like to think about I'm number one and that he's not going to try," Federer said. "That can work against you. They can come out and want to win and may play better than they usually do."

Federer now meets unseeded Nicolas Kiefer after the German advanced to the fourth round for the second consecutive year with a 6-4 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 6-1 victory over Arnaud Clement.

Kiefer is your son, no doubt about it. That is an Argentine expression which means total superiority over a person. Hehe.

Congratulation on your big win against Kiefer! Even though you lost the tiebreak in the second set, you were very strong and won your next sets easily.

Four down, three to go.

Go, Roger, Go.

Kiefer is not a problem for you, even if he's the only one who won a set at wimbledon. Remember that you've a lot of supporters! :-)

Congrat Roger! Somehow it looked like you were moody and a little flat on your feet at the start of the match with Rochus.
It also seemed as though you were a little disgusted about something, were you?
I really sympathize on how much the pressure can g

Dear Roger,
Good luck for the next rounds, you've always been better than Kiefer, he can do nothing against you. Just don't put yourself under too much pressure.
I wish you good health and happiness, and I wish you to win this Open
