Davis Cup 2006

29.09.2005 | Tennis

Switzerland will be playing Australia in the first round of the 2006 Davis Cup. The encounter will take place on February 10-12.

Switzerland will have the advantage of chosing the surface. The head-to-head against the Aussies is rather negative from the Swiss point of view: 0:3. The first encounter in 1930 ended in a 5:0 victory for the Australians, the other two were a lot closer (2000 in Zürich: 2:3; 2003 in Melbourne: 2:3).

One of the most bitter memories is certainly the Davis Cup semifinal in Melbourne, where Roger suffered one of the most devastating defeats of his career. Only two points short of a three-set victory Hewitt fought back with an immense performance, eventually taking home the match 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1.

AND (3) with the recent record of Roger over Lleyton since the last Davis cup,

it should be a sure win for Switzerland.

Grass will not be a problem for Roger, he can beat anyone the Aussie's pick. And he and Allegro won Halle 2005 on grass, so they will be strong. Besides, the Aussies don't have a constant pairing of doubles team. The doubles will consist of 2 experience d

hey all
i think roger will be better off on grass or hard rather than clay - he has lost to nadal on clay this year and hewitt is a very good baseline player - think roger's overall game will be better projected on a grass or hard court - but i really fe
