Davis Cup 2006

Switzerland will be playing Australia in the first round of the 2006 Davis Cup. The encounter will take place on February 10-12.

 

Switzerland will have the advantage of chosing the surface. The head-to-head against the Aussies is rather negative from the Swiss point of view: 0:3. The first encounter in 1930 ended in a 5:0 victory for the Australians, the other two were a lot closer (2000 in Zürich: 2:3; 2003 in Melbourne: 2:3).

 

One of the most bitter memories is certainly the Davis Cup semifinal in Melbourne, where Roger suffered one of the most devastating defeats of his career. Only two points short of a three-set victory Hewitt fought back with an immense performance, eventually taking home the match 5-7, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Go for the Aussies!! eat them alive, just big talkers...you and team can do it. I guess hard clay will be a good choice.

Will keep our fingers cross....I would like to be there to support you guys..but will be in SA.

The other thing to note is Australia's #2 player, Wayne Arthurs is a serve-volleyer, so his game is not suited to clay either.

Which makes clay a natural choice.

It should be noted also that Switzerland has yet to beat Australia in davis cup, in 3 t

If Roger is playing, I think Clay would be the best surface. Grass and Hard are Hewitt's best surfaces, and Clay is his worst. But Roger plays good enough on clay (last time they played, he won 6-0 6-4) to beat anyone. Clay is also Stan's best surface, so

my comment to the davis cup ,semifinals in Melbourne against australia seemed to me not exactly fair.The australians seemed to have played Roger out the way it was structured{.I appologise should i be wrong}While Roger had to battle all of the games,Hewit

The positive side of that bitter defeat was that there was no looking back after that. He won the Masters Cup in Houston at the end of 2003, & the rest as they say... is history.
