Roger receives ATP Trophy
Roger received the Indesit ATP Trophy on Monday for crowning the year-end number one position in men's professional world tennis after another amazing season.
Etienne de Villiers, chairman of ATP, presented the Swiss star the award, a crystal cup with an Arabic numeral "one" sitting in the middle of a circle, on the central court of the Qi Zhong Tennis Stadium.
"Thanks for everybody to share this moment with me," Roger said at the on-court awarding ceremony. "I'm very excited to again win the award, I'll try to get up for it and hope to keep it for the following years."
As part of a celebrating party for Roger's crowning of the No. 1, a cheque from Indesit was presented for the Roger Federer Foundation in Africa.
It has been the second straight year for Roger at world No. 1 as he compiled another outstanding season in 2005 with an ATP-best 11 titles, including two Grand Slam and a record four ATP Masters Series crowns. Now holding an unbeaten streak in finals of all-time best 24, he is the only fifth player in history of ATP Rankings to rank No. 1 every week during calendar year. As of start of Tennis Masters Cup, Roger has ranked No. 1 for 95 consecutive weeks since February 2, 2004, and will reach 100 week mark on the last day of this year's Christmas.
