A last victory before the first big tournament

13.01.2006 | Tennis

Roger was given a preview of his potential Australian Open third-round clash when he just squeezed past Mirnyi, leaving his best until the very last before winning 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-1).

"Players like him, they've got great serves, they're great athletes, at the net especially but I think at the same time it's a great challenge to always keep on passing. You're always going to see nice points and always a lot of winners and I enjoy that actually."

He plays unknown wildcard Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round of the Australian Open. Roger is really looking forward to the first big tournament this year. "There's obviously nerves always involved and a lot at stake for me."

Hi Roger, I was so upset to hear about your loss to Tommy Haas. But like a true champion you overcame the remaining obstacles. Wish you all the very best for the Aus Open. Hey just think about going down the straight line rather than going across the cour

Dear Roger,
Good luck for the Australian Open. You've got the support of your family, friends and fans and that is not at stake. I may not be an adult or a professional tennis player but I know that all you need to do is believe in your self, believe in

What's happening?

Why does it seem you're having a difficult time closing out your matches lately?

Yeah, be careful. Hit them winners!

Dear Roger: There will be nerves on both sides of the court, yours and your opponent. Show them all your Nerves of Steel.
Go to it and WIN...WIN....WIN. We are with you all the way.

Best of Luck
