A last victory before the first big tournament
13.01.2006 | Tennis
Roger was given a preview of his potential Australian Open third-round clash when he just squeezed past Mirnyi, leaving his best until the very last before winning 6-7 (1-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-1).
"Players like him, they've got great serves, they're great athletes, at the net especially but I think at the same time it's a great challenge to always keep on passing. You're always going to see nice points and always a lot of winners and I enjoy that actually."
He plays unknown wildcard Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round of the Australian Open. Roger is really looking forward to the first big tournament this year. "There's obviously nerves always involved and a lot at stake for me."

Good Luck in Melbourne. You're definitely the best candidate to win the title. We're all looking forward to see you in live action.
Best of luck!!
