Roger through after rain delay

01.09.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger recovered from dropping the first set to clearly turn the match, defeating Spain’s Marcel Granollers 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

“I enjoyed it,” Roger said. “I thought it was a good match and I’m happy I was able to come back and turn it around. Marcel started really on fire. The break helped me and I came out and played some great tennis.”

Roger had the help of a passing storm that forced a break towards the end of the opening set as Roger trailed 2-5. After a two-hour break, the players returner onto the court for Granollers to take the set 6-2, but Roger clearly dominated the rest of the evening's match after he saved a break point with an ace to avoid falling 0-2 behind in the second set.

Roger now faces Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 19), the two have never met on the ATP Tour so far.

Hello Roger
First the storm followed by Cyclone Federer. What a match full of some extraordinary shots from you from the back and front of court--you were amazing. One thing is that your children would have no hope of running away from their father as your movement & speed is superb.
During the AO S/Fs 2007 you played many shots from impossible angles, this am you did so again. Heartiest congratulations
I know that over the hundreds of matches that you have played & I have watched

Great job of focusing and thanks for the joy of letting the fans watch more magical Federer shots!!

Rest up and re-energize!

Betterer and Betterer to come!!!!!!!!

With very few exceptions, Roger seems to have a talent to make the most of delays. Most times he takes advantage of pauses and delays and comes back without loosing his focus. Good job!

Weird first set, and superb performance on the rest of the match. Under two hours for 4-setter, just amazing!!!

Keep the good work, Roger!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was slightly worrying but I always thought you'd win. Didn't stay up to watch, but saw recording this a.m. I'm sure the delay helped, but still, after the delay you still dropped your serve and nearly lost your next service game after not managing to convert break points in Granolles' first service game of set 2. So your anti-fans (on other sites) who say you were 'lucky' are wrong. It was saving that break point in your first service game of the second set that turned it around.

Excellent match. If Roger plays like he did in the last 3 sets for the rest of this tournament there isn't a single player on the tour who can touch him. He was just completely supreme in everything that he did on the court in those last 3 sets.

To add to my pleasure today, Roger is also coming back to my home tournament in Brisbane. I can't wait!!!
