New best in Monte Carlo
Roger continued his impressive form on clay as he swept into the semi-finals of the Masters Series event in Monte Carlo with a straight-sets victory over David Ferrer: 6-1, 6-3.
Roger and Rafael Nadal are now one match away from their first clash of the season after clinical wins in the Monte Carlo quarter-finals. Roger outclassed David Ferrer in just 61 minutes while defending champion and number two Nadal defeated Argentine Guillermo Coria 6-2 6-1 on Centre Court.
Roger clinched his quarter-final on his first match point dominating eighth seed Ferrer throughout. "It's my first tournament on clay but I have been practising with the French Open in mind for six months and I felt well physically today," he said.
Roger's semi-final opponent will be Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia or Fernando Gonzalez of Chili who were facing each other in the last quarter-final. "If I had to choose, I would pick Ljubicic because I defeated him everytime we met but both of them are playing well and it will be a difficult match," Roger said.
