Roger sets up dream final against Nadal

22.04.2006 | Tennis

Roger and defending champion Rafael Nadal of Spain will meet in the Monte Carlo Masters final after winning their semifinals Saturday.

Roger beat Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-2, 6-4, and Nadal downed Gaston Gaudio of Argentina 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

He reached his 12th consecutive final, equaling John McEnroe's mark set in 1984. Only Guillermo Vilas (13 straight in 1977) and Ivan Lendl (18 between 1981-82) have reached more in a row.

It was his 29th straight in a Masters Series tournament.

'I was very focused on this match, very concentrated,' said Roger. 'I got off to a fast start. Even though I've never lost to him, Gonzalez is always a tough opponent. I had to play well to beat him. I'm pleased with my form, which has gotten better as the week goes on.'

Roger lost to Nadal in early March in the final of Dubai. 'I want to take my revenge for Dubai in the final,' he said. 'I've had a great week and I'd love to finish it with the title.'

Congratulations on getting to the finals in Monte Carlo! It's too bad your perfect run had to end with Senor Nadal, but from what I've seen, you've been playing aggressively on clay. And now...Rome. Do your best in the run-up to the French Open, Roger,

No hard fellings people!
Respect to Nadal!
He is using his chances better than Roger and in the moment he is the best one on clay court but in general we all know who is the King! So Roger you must find the way to use your chances more and do what you g

You played a good match against Nadal, even though, in the end, you lost. But you're looking great on clay and you seem to be getting better against Nadal. Congratulations on making the final, and I'm sure that you'll beat Nadal next time you meet! =) Goo

yeah koffe7, you need to simmer down. It's not as bad as it seems. I just wish Nadal would meet the Fed that Agassi met at the last US open final.

Devastated by the result of the Final - Nadal isn't a better player but unfortunately, Roger didn't have his best game with him today.
I would like to have seen more first serves in and what happened to the magnificent forehand?
Work to do before Ro
