Roger defeated by Nadal in thrilling final

11.06.2006 | Tennis

Unfortunately Roger was not able to make a huge tream come true today. He lost to Rafael Nadal at today's final of the French Open: 6-1, 1-6, 4-6, 6-7.

"Rafael totally deserved to win this tournament," Roger said after the match. The Spaniard extended his Roland Garros perfect record to 14-0 and his winning streak on clay to 60 matches, leaving Roger opponent one match shy of becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four grand slams simultaneously.

Roger was in a class of his own in the first set, breaking twice a nervous Nadal. The 20-year-old Spaniard, however, hit back in the second and pocketed the third having saved four break points. He then broke in the first game of the fourth set but Roger needed only one break point to level at 5-5, only for Rafael Nadal to win the tiebreak 7-4 and the match after three hours and two minutes.

Dear Roger,

I watched your match today and I have to say I was disappointed. I was not so much disappointed about your loss but because you lost to yourself rather than to Nadal.

Here are my thoughts: It may sound harsh, but I want to be honest wi
