Ninth Wimbledon final!

04.07.2014 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger clearly defeated Milos Raonic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 today to set up a Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic, it is the ninth Wimbledon final in Roger's career.

"That was a big victory, I really had to focus on every point. I know that is always the case at this stage but it was hard. I had to be very careful on my service games and I knew there were only going to be a few chances on his serve, but I am very, very happy," Roger said.

Roger was fully in control of the match, offering Raonic just one single break-ball in the entire match. Roger seized a total of three points, early in the first set and at 4-4 in set two and three.

On Sunday, Roger has the chance to break new ground once again: pushing his number of Grand Slam wins to 18 and winning a record eigth title in Wimbledon when he meets Novak Djokovic. The two players have met 34 times so far, Roger has won 18 of the encounters.

So close yet so far..; however after todays match, I am more than convinced that the 18th is coming. I admire the energy and hunger you displayed in the 4th set. Nole really got a scare...I wish you could have just held in the 5th set. I guess 33 is just a number, these young ones are in for a ride.. we still have history to make in the US open..all the best for the rest of the season. The twins are so beautiful. You deserve a good rest with the family, Nole can use a tip or 2 in that department

I feel quite numb with the days results ...i think in the final set the momentum was with Roger and the crowd certainly showed their support.

I think if he had held on to make it 5 all he would've won.

Nole definitely was scared out there...i feel like crying such drama and emotional drain.

You played beautiful tennis there was v.little between you and you're seen as being 'past it', No way.

Onwards n upwards darling. You have a champions heart & God willing 18 is coming soon.
