Roger reclaims No. 2 spot

16.10.2010 | Tennis

As of next week, Roger will occupy the second spot behind Rafael Nadal in the world rankings - thanks to a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Novak Djokovic in the semifinal of the Shanghai Rolex Masters today.

Roger came through an hour-long first set at the Qi Zhong stadium to regain form and defeat Djokovic, who had stopped Roger's quest for another US Open title in the semi-finals a few weeks ago.

Today Roger battled for almost an hour before breaking Djokovic in the 11th game of the first set after saving four break points himself to level at two games apiece. He then swiftly finished off the set and then broke, to power through the second in a show of strength. Roger went up a double break, but Djokovic clawed one back to no avail as our champ secured his 48th win of the season, putting him into his fourth final of 2010.

Roger is aiming for his 64th career title in tomorrow's final where he meets Andy Murray. Murray beat Roger in the Toronto final two months ago and holds a 7-5 lead in their career series.

Boting,

u should really read THELUCKYFED that ROGER CAN STILL BEAT UP THE WOLFMAN AT GS LEVEL:

1) soOoo what if Murray kept on winning these LOWLY ATP events, huh???

2) our idol RF is still leading the 3-2 H2H at GS events, WHICH MURRAY IS STILL

No problem I am already over it
The person who will be disappointed is Federer
himself. Hope it will not effect him too much
because he will have again tough draws
in the coming tournements.
And he is not getting younger.

Yes, boting, it's very tough to be a Federer fan theses days, because in times like these one can see if you are a real fan or you are only with him in success. I won't say I am not sad. It's not true. But from another perspective it's not so bad either.

we shouldn't forget, that Roger played a very good tournament in Shanghai.

it's part of the game to accept that Andy Murray played better today, congratulations.

he made the pressure, and less unforced errors.

@ theluckyfed:

It's true that champions come and go. However, the way Roger got crushed tonight was just so bizarre. The Scot played superbly, but still this one-sided affair was inexplicable.
