Roger storms through

01.11.2010 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger successfully started his bid for a record fourth title at the Swiss Indoors in his home town Basel today. He defeated Alexander Dolgopolov 6-4 5-2, as the Ukrainian had to retire.

Roger took a 4-3 lead in the opening set as he converted the first of three break points. Dolgopolov had served strong in the first set, but the danger was reduced in the second set as a wayward forehand gave Roger an early advantage after a double-fault. Roger raced even further, taking a 5-2 lead and served for the match. As Dolgopolov was sprinting up to the net, he hurt his right ankle as he stretched to reach a drop shot.

Roger is looking to regain the title in his hometown after losing in last year's final against Novak Djokovic. He has previously won the title three times.

Roger will play either Denis Istomin (ATP 43) or Janko Tipsarevic (ATP 46) on Wednesday.

Hello Roger,

After struggling for a few days to find my way on the renewed website I just followed the suggestion from the Forum and installed Firefox (AND the Adobe Flash Player plug-in) as my web browser. I now am able to post and thus a happy fan again.

The new design of your website looks very stylish and I like it very much. I kind of missed the bright colors for a while, but by now it seems as if this new site has been here forever. I like the improved RESULTS pages, which shows a compact list of titles and finals and all your awards over the years. Presented like this the list looks even more impressive than before ;-).

Congratulations on both the launching of the redesigned site AND winning your first round in Basel. You played an excellent match against a potentially dangerous player and it was a pity you couldn’t finish it properly. I feel sorry of course for both of you that Dolgoplov got injured, but nobody has any doubts that you would have won anyway.

I wish you all the very best for your match against Janko Tipsarevic.

Oh! So now we only have 500 characters! That's a shame because some of the longer posts were the most interesting ones. Also, I could only access the insert box via Google Chrome as Jennico (I think?) suggested - thanks for that. I see I've used up half my characters already and I'm feeling quite cross about it.
Anyway - great against Goldopolev and good luck against Tipso. You seem to be playing great at the moment. Nothing on Sky Sport till Thursday, however.
