Roger defeated in semis

Roger will still have to wait to play his first Paris Masters final. He had to accept a 6-7(7), 7-6(1), 6-7(4) defeat against France's Gaël Monfils in the semi-final in Paris today.

Our champ fought out an enthralling contest with Monfils. The match was as tight as can be, requiring three tie-breaks to settle matters. Both players showed great tennis and made no presents. It was until the end of the second set when, needing to level things to stay in the match, Roger raised his game to snatch the tie-break and take the match into a third set. Roger then raced to a 4-1 lead in the deciding set and looked to be on course for a spot in the final. But his French opponent fought hard, battling his way back into the contest and finally even win the match in the last tie-break. Roger unfortunately could not make use of his 5 break-points.

yes, we gotta congrat Monfils for beating Murray & our champ back-to-back, in 3 sets no less, and his H2H against Roger was 0-5, soOoOo 'twas NO WALKOVER, that's 4 darn sure... but, had Roger NOT blown those 5 BKPTS, I do NOT believe that Monfils will get thru, either!!!

but, it is what it is...and, at least Monfils knows that he needed 2 bring his A-game against our champ, aka THE LEGEND, and he oughta savor his BIG WIN!

2 BAD HE WAS 2 TIRED AGAINST R-SOD.

Roger - you played a great match and I also want to commend Gael for the nice things he said about playing "Roger Federer the Great one" (like our Wayne Gretzky in Canada). It was a heartbreaker for me as well as for you, however, you made it one step further this year in Paris and next year look out everyone.

Wishing you all the best in 02 London -- you are a true winner so bring home the well deserved trophy, Roger.

The draw ceremony is at 11:30 AM London time tomorrow (Tuesday). Let's hope our champ gets Djoker (3) and Berdych (6), not Soderling (4) and Murray (5)!
