Roger through to semis

25.11.2010 | Starseite 1, Tennis

Roger once again displayed great tennis today, defeating Robin Söderling 7-6(5), 6-3 and is the first player to book his spot in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Söderling tried to dominate Roger with his serve today but the sheer class of our champ showed through. The first set was pretty close with Roger taking it 7-6(5) and it is at this point that he looked like he had put his foot down on the gas. The second set saw Roger get into his stride and play some of those lovely ground strokes that we love. He broke in the eighth game with a couple of classy points and completed his 15th victory in 16 encounters with Soderling in 88 minutes. Roger's variation of play and his serve were outstanding.

He will now play the player coming second in group A on Saturday.

If Nadal challenged and the ball was good, then Berdych should have gotten the point. He lost the challenge. Why would Nadal challenge if the umpire overruled the line judge and called the ball out. That doesn't make any sense. If the ball was out then Nadal won the point, no point in challenging. Sorry Dutchlady, your argument makes no sense.

Against the nonsense that has been posted about Rafa's complaint to the umpire I want to put an eye witness report: Berdych hit a ball on the baseline, Nadal returned it and while he did so the umpire overruled the linejudge and called Berdych's ball out. Nadal's ball however had landed inside Berdych's court and it was good. Nadal challenged the call and Hawkeye gave B's ball in. The umpire gave the point to Berdych, but the point should have been replayed. Nadal had every right to complain.

It wasn't deliberate. i said he was a Djoker and came out with an eyepatch on. I didn't say he kept it on. Sorry you misinterpreted. But he probably could have won with it on anyway. Roddick forgot to show up. I think Andy really wanted to avoid meeting Roger in the semis. There's only so much abuse a man can take.
