Roger through to semis

25.11.2010 | Starseite 1, Tennis

Roger once again displayed great tennis today, defeating Robin Söderling 7-6(5), 6-3 and is the first player to book his spot in the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Söderling tried to dominate Roger with his serve today but the sheer class of our champ showed through. The first set was pretty close with Roger taking it 7-6(5) and it is at this point that he looked like he had put his foot down on the gas. The second set saw Roger get into his stride and play some of those lovely ground strokes that we love. He broke in the eighth game with a couple of classy points and completed his 15th victory in 16 encounters with Soderling in 88 minutes. Roger's variation of play and his serve were outstanding.

He will now play the player coming second in group A on Saturday.

All the best Champ. Stay focused mentally. You're gonna rock today & tomorrow. This is your tournament. Just bring your best tennis out. No matter what happens you're the genuine GOAT in millions of hearts. So just don't worry about it. You don't have to prove anything. It's just buzz from the nonsense media. Just go out there and enjoy your tennis...

@Lucaya,

Yes, thank you, I did have a super time in London. There is nothing like watching Roger playing live. Watching the same matches afterwards on TV or the Internet shows how much of all the little details of a match, speed and spin of strokes, effects of serves etc. etc. can't be seen through that TV camera. Apart from that it is also super to be cheering for Roger together with thousands of other fans in a stadium and meeting other people who share your admiration for Roger.

Wonderful display again, Roger. That was another tough match too, but you came trough once again, showing eventually your best tennis. This is great, champ.
You play tonight against Novak for a place in the final. I'm sure it's gonna be an awesome game, and I hope I will see you tomorrow on court again. You've been playing fantastic all along this week, so it would be amazing if you can keep going as you've done so far!

Best wishes, and make it real. We'll be supporting you!
Come on, master!

I'M VERY WORRIED , NADAL IS PLAYING "SCARY" GOOD TENNIS , I REALLY WISH ROGER WINS THIS TOURNAMENT , BUT I'LL JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT THE UGLY INEVITABLE FACT THAT THE STOMPIN GORILLA IS GONNA BE SINKING HIS TEETH INTO THE TROPHY TOMORROW , WHAT A SAD WAY TO END THE YEAR

MURRAY CHOKED IN FRONT OF RAFA , ROGER WILL TOO , REMEMBER HAMBURG FINAL ROGER LEADING 5-1 ON SERVE AND LOSING 7-5 ???!!!!

THAT'S SIMPLY BECAUSE RAFA HAS THE FEAR FACTOR ON HIS SIDE
