Roger wins World Tour Finals!

28.11.2010 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger defeated Rafael Nadal at the ATP World Tour Finals in London 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1 today, defeating the current number one of the world at the inofficial World Championships!

Roger has won the prestigious season-ending-event five times now after his last victory in 2007. He certainly proved that he is hot for the 2011 season. "I am already looking forward to the training starting beginning of December. The start of the season won't be easy as I will have to defend my title at the Australian Open, my only Grand Slam title this year. And staying uninjured will also be an important aspect," Roger said.

Roger played his absolute best today, attacking with his forehand and serving well throughout almost the entire match. After the two players split the first two sets, each breaking the other's serve once, Roger had the first opportunity to break in the third set when Nadal sent a forehand wide in the fourth game. Our champ then took advantage of a second serve to race the net and Nadal drove a forehand pass wide to give Roger a 3-1 lead. Roger then held serve and gained two break points in the next game. He needed just one to grab a commanding 5-1 lead after Nadal netted a backhand. He then opened a 40-0 lead in the final game before Nadal won a point, but Roger smacked a forehand past the Spaniard, not sure whether it was in or not at first, celebrating his victory as he saw the linesman's hands were still held together.

Federer clinically dismantled Nadal in this match, with exception for the second set where Nadal stepped it up. But he pressured Nadal with his improved backhand and wide serving that Nadal was just pressured to hit high risk shots to win, causing errors. Meanwhile, Federer was just hitting winners left and right. Net points were amazing. BACKHAND was supreme and not a liability. Movement (aside from the tumble) was great. I think this strategy will work for him when AO comes around.

Fantastic result, Roger - many congratulations on your record-equalling 5th ATP World Tour finals victory! I hope that this will inspire you during next season - it should be a springboard for more success! What a great way to start and finish the year - your 16th Grand Slam title at The Australian Open and now the World Tour trophy to conclude! Hope you enjoy a well-earned Christmas break with your family :-)

Yep, it's been over a week, and I'm stilll very happy for Roger's success in London.

I enjoy reading most of the comments on RF.com, and have learned so much about tennis. Also feel connected to a lot of people all over the world who appreciate Roger, the man and tennis player.

May he enjoy continued success, because his game is really looking great right now. His matches in London were just amazing.

Love and good luck to a great man.

The old website changed its background to match the color of Roger's shirt each season . The new site is gold and white. I would guess those are Roger's favorite colors since he chose them for this lovely site. It looks like they are here to stay.
Roger looks great in white and gold at Wimbledon ,yes ??? I hope that he wins it again in 2011...
