Roger flies into next round

21.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated Xavier Malisse 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 at the Australian Open on Friday to reach the fourth round.

"I pulled up with no back problems after the match with Simon, which in the past would have scared me a little bit," Roger said. "I'm happy how my body is feeling and I'm moving well. Obviously key to good tennis play today is good movement. That's what I've got at the moment, so I'm very happy."

Roger started perfectly, breaking Malisse twice and racing to a 4-0 lead and then easily securing the first set. But after the break between the sets his game wasn't what he had started with, falling 1-3 behind after a break by the Belgian. But Roger woke up immediately, won 10 games in a row to fly to a 6-3 and then 5-0 lead and eventually move into the fourth round after 1 hour 45 minutes.

Our champ will now play Tommy Robredo (ATP 52) on Sunday. He stands 9-0 against the Spaniard, a 2007 quarter-finalist.

Hello Roger,

Congratulations on reaching the 4th round. Maybe you still felt that 5-setter from the 2nd round a little and because of that things didn’t go as smooth as you would have wanted them to go against Malisse. True or not true, the result was excellent and it was an entertaining match to watch.
I wish you all the very best for your match against Tommy Robredo today.

Yes MILESA, I completely agree with you. Roger has nothing MORE to prove to anyone; he has proven all that can be proved! So please our dear champ, just RELAX and STAY FOCUSED and, like I've always said and I strongly believe, THERE WILL BE NO ONE ON EARTH THAT CAN BEAT YOU .... at least not now ..... God bless you Mr Genius.......

Dear Roger
I hope you'll beat Robredo. We all wish to see you happy and smiling. I'm not sure that I've seen something like that in two last matches! I expect so much from you, and I'm sure you do the same! We, your fans know that you have nothing to proove to anybody, YOU WERE THE BEST, YOU ARE THE BEST AND YOU'LL BE THE BEST TENNIS PLAYER EVER SEEN! But, you have to be calm and cool if anyhow possible. You deserve the best.
I wish you all the best and good luck

Hey Champ, All the best for your 4th round match. Just stay focused and healthy. Don't care about the other half. You have three more in your half before the final. Then you have two more days before the final to think about it. So be yourself and entertain us with your supreme play. Can't wait to see you lift the trophy next week.
