Through to quarters in four

23.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has made it through the first week Down Under and will play the quarter finals next week thanks to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tommy Robredo.

"It was a tough match and I'm really happy to be in the next round," Roger commented. "I'm sweating bullets out here so I'm really delighted to win this match."

Once again, Roger started perfectly, hitting ace after ace and not conceding a single point on his serve in the first set. But the second proved to be a rough ride as he struggled with his return and couldn't get the balls into play like he wanted to. But he went on to regain control in the third and fourth set, taking each one thanks to early breaks.

With the victory, Roger has reached the quarter-finals for 27 consecutive majors since his third-round exit at the 2004 French Open, equaling Connors Open era record! Of his 26 previous quarter-final appearances, he has converted 24 into semifinals, gone on to reach 20 finals and won 14 of them.

In the quarter-final, he will either meet Andy Roddick (ATP 8) or his Swiss Olympic teammate Stanislas Warwinka (ATP 19) on Tuesday.

Hi Rog, it's an amaizing feeling watching you playing and winning and I am injoing it so much,
but the game with Simon, no man, I almost got a heart attack watching the game, please don't do that to me again.
I wish you all the best and I know that you can do it tonight too and till the end.
I have do go to sleep now because in our country your game will start at 3:30 a.m. and I have to go to work after that. so please let me go to work with a big big big smile on my face.
God bless you.

Hey Champ, all the best today. It doesn't make sense why they scheduled your match in the afternoon 3rd consecutive time while it's not the case for other top seeds. Last year Nadal (No 2)'s QF was in the evening session and yours (No 1) in the afternoon. Not sure why they changed this year. Ideally yours should be an evening match today. But they are making it harder for you in every aspect (see the draw) and much easy for your rival. Just focus and play your A-game and the title is yours GOAT!

Dear Roger, why you are not Italian?!?! Here in Italy we would desperately need a person like you, as a positive model for new generations. You are extremely successful in your field, but you still are modest, correct, you respect your competitors, you love your family with simplicity, you take care of the pour people of the world. What a difference between you and our most successful person, Mr. Berlusconi! Thank you for existing, Roger, and hope we will exult with you next sunday
