Through to quarters in four

Roger has made it through the first week Down Under and will play the quarter finals next week thanks to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tommy Robredo.

"It was a tough match and I'm really happy to be in the next round," Roger commented. "I'm sweating bullets out here so I'm really delighted to win this match."

Once again, Roger started perfectly, hitting ace after ace and not conceding a single point on his serve in the first set. But the second proved to be a rough ride as he struggled with his return and couldn't get the balls into play like he wanted to. But he went on to regain control in the third and fourth set, taking each one thanks to early breaks.

With the victory, Roger has reached the quarter-finals for 27 consecutive majors since his third-round exit at the 2004 French Open, equaling Connors Open era record! Of his 26 previous quarter-final appearances, he has converted 24 into semifinals, gone on to reach 20 finals and won 14 of them.

In the quarter-final, he will either meet Andy Roddick (ATP 8) or his Swiss Olympic teammate Stanislas Warwinka (ATP 19) on Tuesday.

Hi Rog, Well today won't be an easy match for you playing against your fellow countryman and friend, but go for it, don't give him an inch of space, for he is hungry for the win. Good luck and take care.

A bit of a wobble in the second set but it was good overall. It's tough you have to play your friend Sam, but that's tennis. He's improved a lot recently but we all know your determination and skills will win through as always. Much love to our beautiful champ.

Roger es mucho mejor que Stan...siempre lo ha sido, y ahora con todo lo que ha mejorado Roger, en su saque, con su juego en la red, y que está jugando mejor que nunca, Stan no podrá con nuestro campeón.
Vamos Roger!! que el trofeo te está esperando MAESTRO!!!

I'm agree whith EMERINA...it's better for Roger to play earlier...in the hot, and it is not tooo hot....you have to live in Monterrey México to see what is hot temperature.....Roger will be ok, dont worry.

You should test Stan's DEFENSIVE skills in these HOT and HUMID conditions of Melbourne today. Don't give him room because he is so dangerous when attacking as he showed against Roddick.

Champ: we miss flawless Roger of the ATP World Tour Final in London. Bring him back please and you'll keep your Australian Open trophy.

Congrats Champ on making it to the final 8.

Next up is your good old friend Stanislas Wawrinka who has clearly improved a lot, almost beat you in Basel, and will try to achieve that here at the Australian Open 2011.

But remember champ, YOU HAVE IMPROVED TOO! Lay aside all friendship and FOCUS during the match. Don't let him get into any rhythm, disrupt his game plan by mixing things up - drop shots, occasional rallies, and confusing service games!
