Roger soars into semis

25.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has reached his eighth consecutive semi-final at the Australian Open as he had little trouble defeating his Olympics doubles partner, Stanislas Wawrinka 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.

"I needed a good performance. We’ve played a lot in matches and a lot of practice together so there’s no secrets,” Roger said. “I had a good day today. I was able to mix it up. I’d like to say though Stan played an amazing tournament.”

Roger broke Wawrinka in the second game of the match, and made 77 per cent of his first serves - his best performance in the tournament to date. And our champ also held him to just one ace, keeping him from earning the free points on his serve that had helped in the previous rounds - Wawrinka had scored 24 aces against Roddick. As Roger broke to a 2-0 lead in the final set, Wawrinka showed his frustration by breaking his racket in two after pounding it onto the ground. Roger went on to easily finish the third set with his second match-ball after just 106 minutes.

As well as making his eighth Australian Open semi-final, it is Roger's 27th in Grand Slams since his first title 2003 in Wimbledon. Roger will either play Novak Djokovic (ATP3) or Tomas Berdych (ATP 6) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

LEFT HAMSTRING MY ASS !!!!!

IF RAFA HAD A LEFT HAMSTRING INJURY , THEN WHY DID HE PLAY THE MATCH TILL THE END , AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO RETIRE IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS INJURY AS A PROFESSIONAL TO AVOID MAKING MATTERS WORSE ?

HERE'S THE TRUTH , IT IS QUITE CLEAR THAT FERRER WAS OUT OUTPLAYING RAFA FROM THE 1ST POINT , NOW WHAT DO YOU DO TO BREAK HIS MOMENTUM ?

USE UNCLE FONI'S GOOD OLD TRICK OF FAKING AN INJURY , THEN SHOW THE WORLD HOW BRAVE YOU ARE BY FINISHING THE MATCH

WELL DONE , AN O

Common girls and guys. Give Rafa a break. I doubt his pain is a big act. What happened to sportsmanship and a bit of compassion. I'm sure even RF wishes him the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Lets all just give Roger our support as true fans. I have no doubt that he will give his very best in the tough matches ahead of him.

2 sum it ALL up 4 that “DELUSIONAL” RAFA SLAM: Nadal got injured only 'cuz FERRER played better by wiping him off the court!!

Guess ALL those critics favorin’ RN over our idol RF as the winner here should just EAT CROW & QUIT MOUTHIN’ OFF ALREADY, i.e. from Johny Mac/S. Edberg/R. Laver, etc.

When our Champ collects his 5th Trophy @ the Podium this weekend, he can SMILE sweetly in the camera, thank his fans/wife/the twins 4 ALL OUR FAITH IN HIS FEDEROCITY & sublime FEDERER MOMENTS~!!
