Roger loses in three sets

27.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was defeated 6-7(3), 5-7 and 4-6 by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open today. Roger struggled to stem Djokovic's aggressive assault, and also had problems with his serve.

Roger was unable to dominate the match and had troubles holding up right from the start. Djokovic won a tense 57-minute first set in a tie-break. Hopes of a comeback for Roger evaporated in the second set when, having fought back from a break down to lead 5-2, he was swept aside by a run of five consecutive games for the Serbian.

Roger was broken once again to 1-2 in the third set, before fighting his way back to 4-4 with a threaded forehand down the line. But unfortunately it was only a brief moment of hope as he went on to save three match-points in the final game and eventually had to admit the defeat.

The loss leaves Roger without one of the four Grand Slam titles for the first time since 2003.

fed played great, only some little things are missing. if fed can identify these little things and add them to the big whole thing, he will be quasi unfeated. i know what i am talking about and I saw the match.
My name is flat-return.

Feel sorry for Federer not for Nadal !!!! Because Nadal has extend about
1200 points to his nr.1 spot on the ATP and Roger nearly to drop to nr.3
So who cares if Nadal does not enter finals

We champion, defeat is not falling. I know I'll win again, as you have always shown.

I should add I am already fed up with the press raving about how wonderful to be rid of Federer and Nadal - yes, they've now written him off as well!!! One article I saw said Tennis loves change, Tennis wants new faces, to have different players in GS at last, a new guard, will do wonders for the sport. But the people who matter are those who pay the bills for these tournaments - us punters flocking to watch, the sponsors and the corporates whose guests want to see famous faces, not "anyone"

it is not about being prepared to beat federer, you need to show the whole world that you can win 16 GS

So sad Roger not to see you in the final. So sad Rafa isn't there either. So sad too that my third favourite David Ferrer was also defeated. Although Murray and Djoko are fine players, it's just not the same as you and Rafa, they've none of the wonderful charisma you two bring to the game - you especially, but Rafa also. I really can't get up any enthusiasm for seeing the final, I don't care who wins now. Looking forward to Dubai, the very best of luck! And hope Rafa is able to play too.

Continued:
and idiots telling you how to play tennis (!) but now I see the tone is much more positive as it should be. You were so dignified and philosophic in your post match interview although you must have been upset. And you know as we all know there's more to come.
continuons le combat.

We invited friends - fellow Rog fans - over to see the final. Sadly now it won't include you. Take heart though - I'm sure you have more wins to come with your beautiful tennis that has been working so well. I just felt against ND you were too nervous - so flat - like all fine tuned instruments - things can go a bit wrong on the day - or like a thorough bred racehorse (if you'll forgive the comparison). I didn't look at or post on this site at 1st because so tired of the negative comments
