Roger loses in three sets

27.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was defeated 6-7(3), 5-7 and 4-6 by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open today. Roger struggled to stem Djokovic's aggressive assault, and also had problems with his serve.

Roger was unable to dominate the match and had troubles holding up right from the start. Djokovic won a tense 57-minute first set in a tie-break. Hopes of a comeback for Roger evaporated in the second set when, having fought back from a break down to lead 5-2, he was swept aside by a run of five consecutive games for the Serbian.

Roger was broken once again to 1-2 in the third set, before fighting his way back to 4-4 with a threaded forehand down the line. But unfortunately it was only a brief moment of hope as he went on to save three match-points in the final game and eventually had to admit the defeat.

The loss leaves Roger without one of the four Grand Slam titles for the first time since 2003.

The loss leaves Roger without one of the four Grand Glam titles for the first time since 2003. Read this and read it again everyone. There is NO-BODY else on the court who can boast this incredible record. Roger, you must be fed up (oops, no joke intended), with people telling you how to play and what you need to do to win - YOU ARE A WINNER, A GREAT CHAMPION AND A GREAT GUY. What we do in life echoes in eternity -you are a champ 4ever.

I dont Believe that you have lost! you were playing so very well all thru the two weeks untill this dreadful day. I am afraid that you have not injured yourself in the due course to lose after being broken so many times on big games. I wish you win rest of the three grand slams as you did after losing the last AO winning the wimbledon and French going even better by winning the US. Best of luck we the Fans of THE ROGER FEDERER are loyal to you as ever and forever.

Djokovic played like a rocket, played well. However, his delays during serving, with the endless ball bouncing - then whipping straight (eventually) into a fast service action - if not illegal, verges very close on gamesmanship. That and the rabbleraising of his partisan crowd are not something nice to see: quite ugly in fact and not in the spirit of a talented individual sporting duel. I trust until Djok grows up a bit the true champs will prevail - including Roger on future occasions! Lx

It must be a tough loss when you were so close to reaching the final, but don't worry, there are three more grand slams left and I'm sure you'll get all of them. Best of luck for the rest of the year and a lot of trophies for you to lift.

Sorry for the loss. But we're all certain that you're in good shape. You played very well last fall and winter, steadily and aggressively at the same time.

Look at the bright side. The year 2009 when you didn't win at AO turned out to be one of the greatest years for you.

In addition, for coming several months you can easily add up your points. There are a lot of opportunities to outperform yourself of last year.

Get back to No.1!!!

Really as long as you are healthy my dearest Federer san, you will be able to achieve your 2011 goal.
Please do not play like them, they will be injured very soon.

Love you forever.

Hey tough luck Roger. I've been your fan for a long time, and I know you can play better than this. Don't let a few tough matches get you down, because everyone knows the level you can play at.
