Roger loses in three sets

Roger was defeated 6-7(3), 5-7 and 4-6 by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open today. Roger struggled to stem Djokovic's aggressive assault, and also had problems with his serve.

Roger was unable to dominate the match and had troubles holding up right from the start. Djokovic won a tense 57-minute first set in a tie-break. Hopes of a comeback for Roger evaporated in the second set when, having fought back from a break down to lead 5-2, he was swept aside by a run of five consecutive games for the Serbian.

Roger was broken once again to 1-2 in the third set, before fighting his way back to 4-4 with a threaded forehand down the line. But unfortunately it was only a brief moment of hope as he went on to save three match-points in the final game and eventually had to admit the defeat.

The loss leaves Roger without one of the four Grand Slam titles for the first time since 2003.

I was not able - due to lack of time - to write after the sad semi-final loss that unfairly veiled the amazing match, even your wonderful tournament. It was a great achievement and I keep remembering every brilliant rally, every magnificent winner... there were so many!!!!

King Roger,
Just want to say to you that you are the best player right now and the best player Tennis will ever gain in her History.
Roger best wishes there and good luck and I hope for you a Peace life with your family.

Monte Carlo is not a mandotary tournement so why would Federer go and play
there ? He will not gain anything overthere.

he can't play all the tournement, he is 29 and heeds to save energy for Roland garros.

I wish our champ wins all the Grand Slams starting with this French open all thru to next years US open and WIN the only Singles title he is yet to win "The Singles Gold Medal" at the Olympics to make Golden Grand Slam. This would shut the mouth of all those doubt that our hero is the best of all time ever. Go our hero.........pls. do this for usssssssss

Actually Monte Carlo is the only Masters 1000 tournament that's not mandatory for the top players. My guess is that Roger opted out so that he'd have 4 weeks off after Miami to train for the Clay court season. Who knows, he may decide to enter as wild card (like 2009). I hope our Champ will have a great Clay court season like 2009. But before that he's gonna rock in Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami. All he needs to do is stay healthy and focused.
