Roger loses in three sets

27.01.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger was defeated 6-7(3), 5-7 and 4-6 by Novak Djokovic in the semi-final of the Australian Open today. Roger struggled to stem Djokovic's aggressive assault, and also had problems with his serve.

Roger was unable to dominate the match and had troubles holding up right from the start. Djokovic won a tense 57-minute first set in a tie-break. Hopes of a comeback for Roger evaporated in the second set when, having fought back from a break down to lead 5-2, he was swept aside by a run of five consecutive games for the Serbian.

Roger was broken once again to 1-2 in the third set, before fighting his way back to 4-4 with a threaded forehand down the line. But unfortunately it was only a brief moment of hope as he went on to save three match-points in the final game and eventually had to admit the defeat.

The loss leaves Roger without one of the four Grand Slam titles for the first time since 2003.

"Fedelegant" says it all. He plays with a beauty beyond parallel. I don't care if he loses straight sets against an inelegant and unsophisticated player who has no claim on history. Roger embodies everything beautiful and worthy in tennis and he will always remain this embodiment - that is why he is recognized for the extraordinary gifts he brings to the tennis court.

His game is a thing of beauty that no Nadal, Djokavic, Murray or any other pretender can replicate or eclipse.

Why is tennis so boring and monotonous BANG BANG shots from the baseline when Roger Federer is not playing? This is the newest tribute:

This variety and beauty is mostly talent. You can't teach it. Period.

Roger was upset that you lost to Novik in the semis. Not upset at you because you didnt play a bad match, upset that you were not in the final to win another grand slam. Just love your style and game. Like most of your core fans I didn't even match the whole(final) match. I believe you would have won that match(semis) if you had just won the second set. I know you're confidence was hurt but don't worry we all believe in you. We want you in the tour for at least 4 more years. Good luck on the nex

Boting, see my remarks from 4.43 pm about the nr. 1 spot. Roger has Rafa in his sight, despite the big gap. Djokovic is close, but he also has more points to defend than Roger has untill Wimbledon. And althought Roger lost at the AO, he is playing well enough to have a chance of getting the number 1 spot back.

nr.1 on the ATP list is more far away than ever. Even the nr.2 position is in danger
