Roger suffers defeat number two

26.02.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger was defeated in straight sets by Novak Djokovic in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships today.

"I had a tough start and a tough end but Novak played a solid tournament all the way through and deserved to win,” Roger said. “It was a tough end for me but still a great tournament."

Roger faced a strong Djokovic right from the start and was clearly dominated in the first set. It looked better in set number two as he broke the Serb to take a 3-1 lead. But unfortunately he had to constantly battle with problems with his timing and rhythm, losing 20 of the following 25 points and eventually the match.

roger....its time u change ur racquet to a more powerful one...the guys ve figured a way to beat u...unless u go for a stronger one and minimise ur errors...i m sorry its difficult to beat them...when u r ur best no one can match u...but its no more the case so pl make some adjustments to better them...u still ve got it in u to beat them...pl do it before time runs out

I totally agree with Babule (from Nigeria) comment. Roger is in perfect conditions to beat anyone. Studying specifically his 3 best opponents (Nole, Rafa and Andy) he will - by large - be able to beat them and the other guys down form top 5... Now, there are no secrets, everyone wants to beat roger and that is because he is the best of all times by large. Even Rafa has said this :). Good luck Roger and blessings.

Roger good luck for Indian Wells! I believe in you!

Djokovic now plays inspired tennis anytime he plays our Roger! Murray, Nadal, and Del Potro belong to this group, though with less success for Murray these days. They all undersand the tactics to play against Roger, by exposing his weakness. So for a day Roger is not at his best, they would almost certainly win the match. What I think Roger needs to do to change the tide, is sit with his team, to address the tactics required to defeat each of these guys, hence build confidence when playing them.

Have watched each and every one of your professional matches, and I will watch all others you play in the future! I am still mesmerised by the sheer beauty and brilliance of your game! South Africa loves you! All the best for Indian Wells and the future!

i have a question, why haven't Roger get the 300 points by being a finalist at the Dubai championship? his points are still the same as before the tournament 7965, he didn't play at this tournament last year!

Of course I would like Roger to win everything and looking at Roger's and Novak's road to the final I moreless expected Roger to do well there. And he did, but Novak did better. I still think that Roger's performance over the last 7 months has been incredibly consistent: final, winner, SF, final, winner, winner, SF, winner, winner, SF, final. Consistency is one of Roger's greatest achievements and it gives me hope and reassurance that he will be around for much longer.

See you in Indian Wells

Nonnaro, Roger will gain the 300 Dubai points in July when the first of his zero points tournaments is dropped (Hamburg). Go to the Forum, Roger and Tennis, ATP Rankings thread for more info.
