US opener against Wang
Roger will open the defence of his US Open crown by taking on Wang Yeu-Tzuoo of Taiwan. He will be bidding to become only the third player in the professional era to win three straight titles at Flushing Meadows. The others were John McEnroe (1979-81) and Ivan Lendl (1985-87).
Roger has never before played the 21-year-old Wang, who is ranked 109th in the world, and he looks set for a comfortable run into the second round. He would then face the winner of the British duel between Tim Henman (ATP 62) and Greg Rusedski (ATP 138). A possible opponent for the round of the last 16 is former world number one, Juan Carlos Ferrero (who had defeated Rafael Nadal in Cincinnati), and James Blake (ATP 5) in the quarter finals.
The US Open will take place in New York from August 28 until September 10.
