Perfect start into clay season

Roger defeated Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber (ATP 32) 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the 1000-Masters in Monte Carlo today.

 

"I'm really just getting a feeling again for playing on clay here on Monaco and then obviously the next two weeks when I'm not playing any tournaments it's going to be really important for me to get a sense of how well I'm hitting the ball. I really want to get some good practice in to be in great shape for Madrid and Rome," Roger said after the match.


Our champion had Kohlschreiber running helplessly around center court and wrapped up the victory in just 50 minutes with his fifth ace of the match. Roger broke the German's serve early in both sets to give himself the advantage in each, and rescued the only break point against him with an ace.

Roger's next match will be on Thursday either against Marin Cilic or the winner of the match between Pere Riba and Potito Starace.

You Honored your nickname yesterday champ, if you keep playing like that Rafa oughth to worry, maybe this year is Roger´s Heaven instead of Rafa´s 7th. You know you can beat him on clay and i bet you will. You showed an amazing shape as well. Champs are champs because they can use their bad times in order to generate better moments, you did that, and for that i congratulate you. @helensmudge, i beg to differ on your statement that he had many unforced errors. I think he only had 9 against 23 winners which is one of the most impressive he has done since Doha in January. Watched Rafas matche today and i believe he had an inferior winner-error ratio than Roger.

still making some errors you will not be able to get away with it against Nadal.
your shots are still brilliant and you must play them againt the big ones.
but you are still the greatest player ever and nothing will change that.
keep going you will get better with each match i agree with Barry Cowen you just need to get your confidence back against the top players and convince your self that you can beat them good luck tomorrow. love Helen xxxx

Many mistakes. Not so happy even though you won. You cant afford to make such mistakes against top 5. I wish you can play the same game you played in US open 2008 everytime (semi finals)
