Roger cruises into quarters

Roger defeated Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-3 in Monte Carlo today and has booked his spot in the quarter-finals.

Roger continued his swift trek and needed only 36 minutes to win the first set. He was in control of the match even though he did face his only break point of the day in the opening game of set two. Both players recorded 13 winners, while Roger made only 10 mistakes, compared to 27 errors by Cilic. Our champ wrapped up the match after 70 minutes when Cilic's forehand sailed long.

"I thought Marin did well, actually," Roger commented after the match. "I thought he had a good mix going and I thought we were both serving well. I was really happy with the performance at the end."

On Friday, Roger will either face Jürgen Melzer (ATP 9) or Nicolas Almagro (ATP 12).

Am so happy to watch you play on clay again. Why, when you were brought up on clay and played the 1st ten years of your tennis career on it,some say that it is your least favourite surface, is beyong me.
Your movement/footwork for the 1st 2 matches superb, serve high %,I love your drop shots and naturally your whole game of tennis--well done & congratulations on the wins.

Another average match. Just good enough to win with one break in each set. The level of play is so ordinary we know what is going to happen on Sunday. Well, I will be happy if the defeat is not as bad as the one in Miami.

Is it only me who thinks Fed is just going thru motions? It's like he is content to win against lesser players (that is, anyone not named Nadal or Djokovic or even Murray) and maintain high enough ranking so that commercial sponsorships don't dry up?
