Roger out in quarters

15.04.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 2

Roger dropped out of the Monte Carlo Masters after a 4-6, 4-6 defeat against Jürgen Melzer (ATP 9) in the quarter-finals today.

“He did well and played aggressive. He didn't give me many chances,” Roger said. “I didn't think I played terrible. It's the first week of play [on clay] so I didn't expect to play my best. It's been a solid tournament.”

Melzer had to be treated due to back problems after the first game. But he came out strong, pushing Roger into defense again and again, causing our champ to make a total of 24 unforced errors throughout the one hour 44 minute contest, not being able to convert any of the 7 break-points. The Austrian, in turn, took his two break point opportunities with gusto.

Roger will get back onto court in the beginning of May in Spain, where he will participate in the Mutua Madrileña Masters.

since he didn't play Monte Carlo last year, Roger will have to wait till the next same-points tournament to add points from MC and Dubai. that's 480 points on hold!

So frustrating I couldn't watch Roger's matches in Monte Carlo but we were on holiday in the Alps... I read up the results the next day and am sorry to see you didn't beat Melzer, Roger, but everyone has off days and it seems you haven't had much luck in the past either at this tournament. Good luck with your next, sure you will win at Madrid after giving probably Djokovich a thorough beating this time in the semis. Please don't ever again be distracted by his rowdy fans - they aren't worth it.

Dear Roger,
So sad that you were defeated in quarter
but that was just a thing that can happen

take good rest, practice, enjoy playing tennis, and...
Wish you the best for the next tournament

You did play well. You got a little nervous once you got behind. No need for that. Keep your confidence level high no matter what and continue to play YOUR game and not the game that the "press" dictates. I think you just need to go back to being the "ace king"!!!!...you need to win a slam now for your twins!!!

Rog, You are my universial hero. You are the standard by which all sports-man like conduct and behavior is defined.
Centuries from now people will watch your artistry and enjoy your games the way we listen to and enjoy Ludwig von, Bach, Brahms, Mozart and Mahler.
Sometimes I have been critical but that is because I live and die with you on court.
Good luck, Rog, let's kick some ass!

1-Hello my dear beautiful wonderful Roger how are you?
It was a solid start for the clay court season; there are plenty of great opportunities ahead to keep on going.
I love your perfect technique that shines beautifully on this surface; your game is truly delightful; the speed and the effect you give to the ball are amazing.
It is great that now you're enjoying some nice time on beautiful Switzerland, have fun during your practice time!
