Roger cruises into quarters

05.05.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated Xavier Malisse today 6-4, 6-3 and has booked his spot in the quarter-finals.

Roger played much more flexible today - just a few hours after his victory over Spain's Feliciano Lopez. He was in control of the match. He struggled only once when Malisse fought his way back into the first set but Roger eventually took it 6-4. After 70 minutes, Roger won the match with his first match ball.

"I was really happy with my performance," said Roger after the match. "I'm looking forward to the next round. Xavier is a great player, who is capable of great shots so it is very nice to get through."

In the quarter-finals, Roger will face the winner of the match between Robin Söderling and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Roger leads the head-to-head 15-1 against Söderling, and 3-1 against Tsonga.

I'm sure Rog will be very disappointed with the result but still got more to play next week. I was really disappointed with the commentators, thought the were supposed to be impartial.
Best of luck next week Rog.
Loads of Love

Fed you have a big hart swallowing defeats after defeats by the younger
generation stumbling in tournements after tournements.

Rog u played great hold ur head up. I don't think nasal won the match. I believe u gave it to him. When u were aggressive, he had no chance. But the unforced errors and easy points as a result cost u the match. I'm very excited because today's match reaffirmed my belief that u r the greatest ever. Let's c nasal and djkoker at 29+ with 2 kids playing very competitive tennis. U the best ever

Shame on you.

Mohamed Lahyani is a great chair umpire, and he was right in both occasions. Stupid, pointless arguments with him in the beginning of the 2nd and 3rd set.

You were playing brilliantly up until that point. You were "by far" the better player today with amazing forehand and backhand. Nadal won because of his "attitude", not because of his "tennis".

Shame on you.

A big fan, but as long as rafa and the joker are there (and others now) he will never get passed the semis or win a final. He had a good run but the glory days are over. Can he settle for this?
