Roger cruises through

11.05.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger defeated France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 6-2 today to book a spot in the next round in Rome.

Roger secured an early break in the first set and had no trouble bringing it home 6-4 after 43 minutes, even though Tsonga had two chances to re-break. In the second set Roger saved seven of the seven break points he faced as he came up with great serves when necessary. After 83 minutes, Roger used his second match ball to win the match 6-4, 6-2.

Our champ will now play Richard Gasquet (ATP 16) on Thursday.  The two have met nine times before and Roger is leading the head-to-head 8-1.

You still have the fight and the talent, Roger! Sorry about today -- Gasquet was just very on his game. I still have confidence in you -- I know you will win more tourneys! Don't be discouraged. All players go through ups and downs. Good things are definitely still to come!!

I am a big fed fan, Gasket is a very good player. Federer escapes from Gasket many times before. I would like to see Fed win, but that's how it goes. My main problem with Fed is how he is going to play big point against players like Djoko or Nadal, berdych, delpo. He looks kind of nervous when facing those guys on big point. i wish he coul make it to the semi at the french. He is 29, look at roddick, Davydenko, they almost unable to play, they are 29 also.

You have to concentrate more after breaking the opponents serve as he could break yours as well, you have to believe in yourself and hold on to the match when you lose a set, you have to run faster and work on your fitness, you have to raise your level when your opponent is playing at his best. Well i think you have to work on lots of weaknesses although unfortunately most of them are mentally. However i still believe in you champ, you always come back so good luck for roland garros. Come oooon.

You played extremely poor today. If you continue this way, then you are not going to win even wimbeldon. We are just shocked today.

What a shame, shame on you, Roger!!!! WTF is going on with your game and concentration????

this is a natural decline, will be shocked if u ever win a masters, worse still reaching a slam final in the presence of Rafa and Nole. Its time to hang the racket lest the likes of Nieminen, Stakovsky and Volandri will surely be fancing their chances against you on any surface mate... no excuses!!!
