Roger defeated in round three

12.05.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has dropped out of the Rome Masters in round three, losing 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-7(4) to Richard Gasquet. Our champ made a number of uncharacteristic errors against his French opponent, who he had beaten in their previous eight meetings.

"I should never have lost this match," said Roger. "He knows how close he came to losing. I had multiple chances but I couldn't make the difference. I thought I was playing well but he served better toward the end and hung in there. I didn't feel I could break and it's no fun to play like that".

Roger started into the match well and broke Gasquet in the seventh game of the first set before serving it out. In the second set he already had a 4-2 lead when Gasquet fought his way back into the match and even taking the tiebreak. The third set also had to be decided in a tiebreak where Roger just committed too many errors in the end.

Up next is the second Grand Slam tournament of the year: Roland Garros. "I'm looking forward to a few days to stay mentally and physically fresh and practice very hard" said Roger.

Roger, we are all mentally with you in France. All the best to you. Show us your best tennis like in London in November 2010. We will watching you and see how you will play in Final of Roland Garros. I am sure you will win despite the conditions of your main opponents. Just remember - your ar ethe one and the only one!

Scrolling through the forum instead of trying to get some sleep (it's 2:23 am..) I found this interview with Roger by Mats Wilander. Roger confirms here what some of us already suspected: he is trying out new things and knows what he is doing and why!

Absolutely, **Jodoug**
ALLEZ ROGER
And enough of this 'Nadal talks to his fans'. he doesn't, period. It's his PR. He DOESN'T WRITE IT HIMSELF, darling. End of story.

**SATISHAMBITION** thanks for the info. the press buried roger in 2008 when he lost AO semi to djoker. he won USO that year. they buried him in 2009 when he lost AO to nadal. he came back and tied and broke pete's record. added #16 in 2010. the press has buried him again (along with some of his fans). hopefully he will come back again this year. i don't expect it at the FO. but, he could fool me. at WIM and USO i expect better things for him. fingers crossed. much love and hope for roger.

French players like Llodra, gasket, Monfils. they get so much respect for Federer, they always call him " le plus grand de tous".
Moya said that too at madrid. Djoko did not expect to be where he is now. Fed is fed.

I think Djoko has a personal problem with fed. He is calling Nadal the greatest ever. he does that all the time just to provoke Fed. he knows it is not true. Djoko and his body nadal have to win 17 GS before they start talking. These players aare one dimentional players. Fed said : " Santoro is a great player to play against, because the public can expect diferents things. he add to say some other players when you play against them, you just serve then go to the corners start returning backhand

I do not need anyone to beat djoko or nadal. I can get my number one back by beating them all.

If fed can get his mental strengh back, and keep doing what he is doing from last year. All of them are ordinary players.

I watch fed Since 03 and you?

my name is flat-return and I know who Fed is

Hi all Roger fans,
I have written another article on Roger's possible route back to number one. It won't be easy with Rafa and a surging Djokovic.

WHEN HIS BEST IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, THEN HE WILL RETIRE, BUT THEN AGAIN, HIS BEST IS UNEQUALLED!

TO ALL FANS. NEVER GIVE UP ON OUR CHAMP. HE WILL RETURN TO HIS BEST AND END DJOKOVIC'S RUN.
