Roger defeated in round three

12.05.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger has dropped out of the Rome Masters in round three, losing 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-7(4) to Richard Gasquet. Our champ made a number of uncharacteristic errors against his French opponent, who he had beaten in their previous eight meetings.

"I should never have lost this match," said Roger. "He knows how close he came to losing. I had multiple chances but I couldn't make the difference. I thought I was playing well but he served better toward the end and hung in there. I didn't feel I could break and it's no fun to play like that".

Roger started into the match well and broke Gasquet in the seventh game of the first set before serving it out. In the second set he already had a 4-2 lead when Gasquet fought his way back into the match and even taking the tiebreak. The third set also had to be decided in a tiebreak where Roger just committed too many errors in the end.

Up next is the second Grand Slam tournament of the year: Roland Garros. "I'm looking forward to a few days to stay mentally and physically fresh and practice very hard" said Roger.

Roger, it's really hard to take such a very close loss. It hurts so much, but to me, you ARE the winner.
Practice ery hard, you are bound to get some good results. It's been so very long ago ....

I really enjoy seen you every day on TV, if only for 5 seconds. It always comes at 6:40 when the sports news come on. You are side-stepping so quickly & lightly... lovely.
You have no idea how happy I was today when I received your superb Rolex autographed post card. Thank you
Love you, wishes

... threats from other players mainly due to undisciplined game from Fed. Fed's undisciplined game is quite evident from the number of UE and his inability to cash in on break opportunities. All in all the situation is depressing to say the least. I think it is better not have any expectation at all at this point. Please pardon this dejected and depressed fan.

In order to play well against Nadal, much less beating him, in FO one has to be well prepared to defend against Nadal's weapons. A good example of the weapons is heavy topspin shot to backhand of righties. Federer in his prime did not find a way to deal with this weapon. May be inadequate preparation or may be supreme confidence in his skills that he might thought he can handle that, etc. Whatever the reason(s) results are clear. This year Fed has to deal with Novak also, not to mention ...

Part 2- Roger writing a blog once a year U might think is enough. I don't agree I like both Federer and Nadal but Federer is with no doubt my Favorite. I have not lost faith I just think this isn't his year!!!!
