Roger moves into US Open quarters
Roger rolled to his fourth consecutive straight-sets victory with a 6-3 7-6 6-3 triumph over France's Marc Gicquel (ATP 79) at the U.S. Open on Wednesday.
The defending two-time champion won the first three games of the fourth-round match without losing a point but the 29-year-old Gicquel settled down and fought gamely.
"I had a feeling that I had to play good today, solid," said Roger. "I was very happy, of course, with the start."
The world number one blasted 15 aces and had 42 winners but Gicquel stayed in the one hour, 46-minute match by committing only 22 unforced errors.
Roger will meet American James Blake in the quarterfinals. The five-seeded Blake downed 12-seeded Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in another fourth-round match with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 win.
"From now on, the players I'm getting are more experienced,'' Roger said in his post-match news conference. "So it's going to be a hard tournament from now on.''

PLEASE WIN!!! As an American, I can say without reservation that you are the best player in the world and I want you to beat Blake so much. Blake is a great guy, but not against you. Good luck. I know you will do it.
