French Open Final!

03.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger showed a brilliant display in the semi-final of the French Open today, ending Novak Djokovic's winning run with a 7-6,(5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) victory and setting up a meeting with Rafael Nadal in the final.

"I've trained a lot during my whole life for these kinds of matches," Roger said. "There was an enormous amount of pressure on Novak and he really played well."

Roger had an answer to just about everything Djokovic showed on court today, even though cumulating 46 unforced errors on the way, five more than his opponent. After taking the first set in a tiebreaker, Roger managed an early break in the second and brought home the set smoothly. Djokovic came back in the third set as Roger also committed too many errors. Just like the opening set, the fourth was a tough fight with breaks on both sides, ending in a tiebreaker. That proved another immensely tight fight, but Roger eventually rode home the victory with his 18th ace.

Our champ will now face Rafael Nadal on Sunday in the final of the 2011 French Open in what promises to be another classic duel between the two players. It is the fourth time in six years that the two meet in the Paris final.

Single handed backhand against Nadal on clay is a problem when returning serves I think. It doesn't allow sustained pressure when a backhand return goes long after winning a good point. Even if you have variety and all the shots so to speak. So he did his best, much more competitive first three sets, than against other players with double handed backhands. NOW IS THE TIME TO SHOW SUPPORT AS THE NEXT TWO GS ARE ON FAVOURABLE SURFACES! SO STOP COMPLAINING and wish well for the man.

I cant believe the rate at which Nadal is winning Grandslams!!! Someone should def stop him!!! Otherwise he will go to 20s and 30s... Hate him!

For U.S. viewers, are you listening and watching the McEnroe-Nadal interview? Nadal said clearly he had to stop the momentum in the first set bec. Fed is dangerous when he is ahead a set. What f----king blister? I am not a big fan of Novak myself, but I want him in the mix to disrupt Nadal's ascension in the slam count.

What tough luck but you are still the best player ever despite the scoreline and the result.

Look guys, Nadal shouldn't time waste between points, but ultimately it is the umpire's job to check on this, which he never did. Federer got closer this time, he had chances but he will have to work on his consistency with the 1st serve and returning on the back hand. I was more happy to see him fight till the end and show that passion that will make the difference in the other three GS.
