French Open Final!

03.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 1

Roger showed a brilliant display in the semi-final of the French Open today, ending Novak Djokovic's winning run with a 7-6,(5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(5) victory and setting up a meeting with Rafael Nadal in the final.

"I've trained a lot during my whole life for these kinds of matches," Roger said. "There was an enormous amount of pressure on Novak and he really played well."

Roger had an answer to just about everything Djokovic showed on court today, even though cumulating 46 unforced errors on the way, five more than his opponent. After taking the first set in a tiebreaker, Roger managed an early break in the second and brought home the set smoothly. Djokovic came back in the third set as Roger also committed too many errors. Just like the opening set, the fourth was a tough fight with breaks on both sides, ending in a tiebreaker. That proved another immensely tight fight, but Roger eventually rode home the victory with his 18th ace.

Our champ will now face Rafael Nadal on Sunday in the final of the 2011 French Open in what promises to be another classic duel between the two players. It is the fourth time in six years that the two meet in the Paris final.

Dear Roger, I have to agree with some of the comments: somehow, because it's Nadal, he seems to get inside your head. I really thought you had a good chance this year! But he's a fighter Nadal and he wanted this. Come on, Roger's got 6 Wimbledons so lets be as gracious as our champ in defeat. It was a tough match against Djoke; perhaps this was a step too far. It would have been wonderful to see him win but that's the way it is. all love to our champ xxxx

MARICAR: Yes I agree with you. Nadal himself said that sometime last year. He admits he use this technique to slow down the momentum of his opponents. What a cheater Nadal is.

Frankly Nadal is not in his peak form for sure.. He lost both Rome and Madrid to Djokovic. He was pushed to a five setter in his 1st round french open. I guess its just easy for nadal to beat federer whether its a grand slam final or a masters final, because of the confidence and body language. He doesnt have much techniques like roger. His biggest strength is his stamina.

Skipping Queens was wise? That's amatter for discossion. Though he will get to Wimbledom well rested, the break will be to long.

Maybe the best thing for Roger to do is to lose on the third round. That way, he won't be to long away from the court. Remember, he's got a bye in the first round.

Guys it's Luck and mentality..Fed is playing good and surely by this performance he will win Wimbledon. I think he has a very good opportunity to become Number 1 after Wimbledon and US Open. The lucky Nadal will finish the year Number 3..

Roger, congratulations on reaching another final. You showed you still can play well. However, I think you handed Nadal this trophy. Novak would have crushed Nadal, and Rafa knew this. By beating him, you allowed Nadal to walk away with GS 10. Nadal has no issues playing and beating you, 6-2 in slam finals says it all. Novak woudl have crushed his spirit, and you could have finished him in Wimbledon. oh well, second fiddle to Nadal again at RG, nothing new there. All the best for grass.
