Roger defeated in final

05.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger was defeated 5-7, 6-7, 7-5 and 1-6 by Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open today.

"It was an exceptional performance by Rafa. He's beaten me again. I'm sad but I am happy to play him," Roger said. "He is the best player on clay but I am proud of the way I have played over the last two weeks but I couldn't do enough against him. It was important to get into another grand slam final."

Roger started strong, breaking Nadal in the second game and taking a 5-2 lead. But it was just when Roger was serving for the set that Nadal found his rhythm and won the following five games to take the first set. The Spaniard continued to play almost without errors into the second set, but Roger managed to hold onto his service games and then break to level 4-4 - only to be broken again in return. Play was suspended for a few minutes due to rain - with Roger coming back onto the court to break Nadal and bring the set into a tie-break - which Roger unfortunately clearly lost.

Roger seemed to change his game in the third set and was at his best at 5-5 to go on and book the set onto his account. He continued well into the fourth set and had several break-points, but it was Nadal who made use of the chances he was given and left no doubt that he wanted the match to come to an end.

Roger will now open the grass court season this week at the tournament in Halle (GER).

If you read the stats when Djokovic beat Nadal in Madrid and Rome, I think his backhand winners outnumbered his forehand winner. Roger's backhands need to become lethal winners!! Do you think Roger will go for the double handed back hand?? Djokovic back hand winners were brilliant in Rome because he hitted the ball early and hit through the spin., which neutralised Nadal threat. Sometimes you need to adapt and evolve Djokovic has given any one the blueprint. Keep believing.

ya aladwani!!! I agree with you. I hope roger read this post... that solution is to send the ball to nadal's backhand when roger has no opportunity to attack because roger seems clueless when he don't have chance to attack, he just sends ball over and over to nadal's forehand, so nadal can start attacking.....roger send the ball to nadal's backhand not forehand. when you get chance, you decide which side to attack depends on situation but more to nadal's backhand which is his weak side.

First: Paul and Roger (not me or any body else) should diagnose the problem.

Second: Solve it.

BOTING: Please don't tell me mental, topspin on backhand of Federer is not easy, ...etc. These are only reasons that we put to convince ourself that Nadal is good enough but the truth is: He is winning, lets face it. Find a solution, and it should be a permanent solution. I know that mental strength is important, but look at Novak, he improved this year and he is in my opinion way better than Nadal. What I'm trying to say is: Lets find a solution.

hey you have proven that you are even better than nadal in hard court and grass court and sometimes can beat nadal on clay too without harassing his backhand which is his weakness lol. it means your talent is a lot better than nadal..... but I hope you realise that you can beat nadal 90% if you harass his backhand and reduce your errors in long rally even on clay too... i can see it roger but you seem to not realise this...please roger.....attack nadal's backhand!!!! he is uncomfortable with it!

Federer has a very weak spot for Nadal !!!! He has a mental fall down when
he plays against Nadal. He loses his believe that he can easily beat Nadal.

I thought Roger should have won!! If you told him he would be 5-2 up in the first set and serving to be 5-4 in the second, he would have thought he would win. I do think Nadal is a great player but I think Roger and others are caught up in the hype. Remember when no one thought Mike Tyson could get beaten!! Nadal is winning before a ball is hit. Djokovic has shown that he is beatable on clay, no one is unbeatable. You just have to believe! Roger to win Wimbledon and US Open!!

Rafa may be the king of clay courts, but you had your chances, failure of first serve and number of unforced errors at crucial points stopped you from victory. After you lost the first set you became a different man,you did not show any fighting spirit like a champion,Rafa wasn't fantastic, you let him win, too bad.
Well my dear, do something to improve you mental strength if you want to beat him , watch the video of last RG finals to learn mistakes and make a strategy to beat him in Wimbledon
