Roger defeated in final

05.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger was defeated 5-7, 6-7, 7-5 and 1-6 by Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open today.

"It was an exceptional performance by Rafa. He's beaten me again. I'm sad but I am happy to play him," Roger said. "He is the best player on clay but I am proud of the way I have played over the last two weeks but I couldn't do enough against him. It was important to get into another grand slam final."

Roger started strong, breaking Nadal in the second game and taking a 5-2 lead. But it was just when Roger was serving for the set that Nadal found his rhythm and won the following five games to take the first set. The Spaniard continued to play almost without errors into the second set, but Roger managed to hold onto his service games and then break to level 4-4 - only to be broken again in return. Play was suspended for a few minutes due to rain - with Roger coming back onto the court to break Nadal and bring the set into a tie-break - which Roger unfortunately clearly lost.

Roger seemed to change his game in the third set and was at his best at 5-5 to go on and book the set onto his account. He continued well into the fourth set and had several break-points, but it was Nadal who made use of the chances he was given and left no doubt that he wanted the match to come to an end.

Roger will now open the grass court season this week at the tournament in Halle (GER).

Who still cares about results, he already has proven everything. Let's all enjoy the man who plays with his soul, cauze let's be realistic - I hope he goes on forever - but these beautiful moments won't keep coming forever. We must all be happy that we had ANOTHER chance to see the brilliant, most talented, and supersympa Roger in action on the highest level, fighting the best gravelplayer ever. HE WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST, not only for his results but even more for the person he is..

and BTW stop telling him what he should to do because we are just viewers " the talking is very easy but working is the hard part "
let him enjoy the moment and the game, don't make him under pressure that he have to win...

Go Federer we all with you no matter what the result is.

Love and Respect you sooooo much....;D

ok, now for all those who are mad of federer because of losing this match.... let me refreshing your memory by all his victories and new records, so stop pushing on him like that and making him being disappointed on his fans, you should be proud of his magic shots and all these 2 extraordinary weeks, he's a human being n it's normal to win and lose...yes he's the best tennis player ever but there r also other good players that will win too, he can't win all the tournaments as nobody can do that.

hi roger! hope you got the 1st set and didn't choke coz you were serving for the set. it would have been a different story. oh well, if you couldn't get rid off nadal in your psyche and believe that you can win against him, he has his chances of overtaking your 16 GS titles. but you still have tournaments to win on and have chances to be in GS finals.

Hi Roger! Great effort in the final!!! You played some awesome tennis throughout the tournament, and also in the final. If you'd have won the first set, which you deserved, or the second set tie-breaker, which is always a lottery, I think you could have pulled off the greatest victory of your career!! It was fantastic to see you come back and win the 3rd set with such aggressive play, and if you'd capitalized on your 3 break points at the beginning of the 4th set who knows!!! Be proud!!!!!!

As Roger has said, it was important to get into a GS final again. This would give him plenty of confidence going into Wimbledon. It is wrong for us to analyze Roger's shortcomings against Nadal. Do we really know, what it takes to win matches constantly in a major event? Roger would know more than all of us put together where he needs to make improvements and then he has Paul Annacone to assist him improve. He would be the happiest person if he could overcome his shortcomings against Nadal.

The down-the-line backhand is needed frequently against Nadal. When players hit this shot Nadal returns crosscourt backhand 80% of the time, so there is higher chance to activate roger's forehand. But its hard for a 1-hander to hit this shot, anyways roger's cc BH isn't high percentage against Nadal, dosen't hurt to try either.

after roger get AO 2010 16 slams and nadal was 6 now still roger 16 and nadal 10 with 66% success to nadal and 0% for federer
so, I believe federer is not that dangerous player in the GS anymore

he gave the match to nadal as gift without consistent fight
so thank you for make us bleeds
and it seems that you didn't have the desire any more just the gentleman that you are care about
I do not excepect from you any more in WB QF,SF,or runner up as usual
nadal got 7 out of 10 GS from Roger
