Roger defeated in final

05.06.2011 | Tennis, Starseite 3

Roger was defeated 5-7, 6-7, 7-5 and 1-6 by Rafael Nadal in the final of the French Open today.

"It was an exceptional performance by Rafa. He's beaten me again. I'm sad but I am happy to play him," Roger said. "He is the best player on clay but I am proud of the way I have played over the last two weeks but I couldn't do enough against him. It was important to get into another grand slam final."

Roger started strong, breaking Nadal in the second game and taking a 5-2 lead. But it was just when Roger was serving for the set that Nadal found his rhythm and won the following five games to take the first set. The Spaniard continued to play almost without errors into the second set, but Roger managed to hold onto his service games and then break to level 4-4 - only to be broken again in return. Play was suspended for a few minutes due to rain - with Roger coming back onto the court to break Nadal and bring the set into a tie-break - which Roger unfortunately clearly lost.

Roger seemed to change his game in the third set and was at his best at 5-5 to go on and book the set onto his account. He continued well into the fourth set and had several break-points, but it was Nadal who made use of the chances he was given and left no doubt that he wanted the match to come to an end.

Roger will now open the grass court season this week at the tournament in Halle (GER).

roger plays as well as 04-07 at times but the problem there is stamina and endurance i think. When u are tired u hit badly. I hope roger can do a agassi though its hard.

I think Rog played well all the tounrment and some of the ups and downs towards nadal for no reason apart from that rogers is the only one convinced he cannot win and i see it though the 23 unforced errors in the second set and ended by tie break for nadal which ensures that nadal is not the same player but federer becomes more fragile against him for psychological not technical reason so you need psychotherapy before that kind of match

Roger has done a very fantastic tournament and he was so close to win his 17th. After a great technical (the unique magic of Roger), tactical, mental and physical match against Novak, I was so optimistic about Sunday even it was against the king of clay because he was more than able to beat Rafa. When Roger plays Rafa, the only one who confidently knows that Rafa is the winner is Roger...I SUGGEST.... that was clear at the end of the first set and the beggening of the fourth. Hi Roger,
The best game you played very well was the game with Dyoker in Rolan Garros. I hope you can keep up with those shots in next two grand slams same as the way you played with Dyoker. For sure, you will the next twp grand slam in 'winboldon and Us open, I have confident that your team will help you and I hope you feel better and is ready for Winbledon.

Now world tennis is at its best.I dnt think anyone is dominant lik Fed frm 04-07 and Rafa in 08 and 10.Djokovic was but it is over i think as Fed is der.For Fed there is Rafa,Murray,Djokovic. For Rafa thr is Djokovic everywhere and Fed on Grass and fast HC as well as Murray on HC.For Murray thr r all the top 3.For Djoker thr is Roger only i think, but Murray cant be counted out!If Roger wins 2011 Wimbledon, its gona be a race for no.1 between the Top 3 players and Competition gonabe sharp as razor!

The positives are tht Roger serve improved,as well as his BH.FH is the same!Playin betr on BPs thn before, returnin betr, more aggressive and fitter! The Roger of 2007 was the same or wasnt this gud maybe!Anyway he hasnt played this well since 2007 Shanghai! Not evn at 2008 wimbledon whr he was bad in BP conversion. He has a betr chance of winnin wimbledon thn he had in 2008!Lets see if he does so.Needs luck and blessings frm GOD!

Roger served well, but not as well as he had done against Djokovic whr the serve speeds were higher and more accurate.Against Rafa it had to be at same level, but dint happen and it was a bit lower>Rafa converted 7/15 BP's
This is due to his efiiciency in servin was less thn against Djoker whr it was 4/13.His return was ok as usual and he dint play well as he played against Djokovic on big points!Else it would hav been five sets!Rafa may hav won thn,but still it maynot hav been be so!

Roger I thought you played really well at Roland Garros especially against Rafa you obviousl felt the discomfort you are having now, otherwise I think you would have had it in the bag.Never mind onwards and upwards, hope all is well for Wimbledon I wish you all the luck O Great One C'MON x

Roger u are finest player in this world...that even rafa knows.....I am hard core fan of yours....since 2005....What I really noticed is that ...you are bit in a hurry when u are close to the winning when it is rafa....Believe me u are much much better than him.....if u play ur natural game nobody can win ur match.....just what u need is to improve your patience....and have mind to wait there as much as possible......Good Luck for Wimbledon
